Our History
Compton Fundraising Consultants is more than one-man's creation. Founded in Brisbane, Australia by Everald Compton, the company quickly grew from its humble beginnings in 1962, to serve the needs of hundreds of church and community groups seeking to raise funds through stewardship programmes.
Challenges soon followed to undertake the management of major capital campaigns and with success came opportunities for assignments further a field. Offices were opened in the United Kingdom, Canada and South Africa, serving over 1,000 clients in more than forty countries.
In the early 1990's, the retirement of Everald Compton and successful management buy-out resulted in the Group being restructured and relocated to England. The focus of the consulting business was fixed on our markets in the United Kingdom and the west coast of North America.
The professional expertise developed managing campaigns for ecclesiastical clients such as Ely Cathedral, translated into assignments with over thirty other cathedral clients.
Issues based fundraising for clients such as the Australian Farmers' Fighting Fund, the Canadian Reform Party and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, galvanised a capacity to mount grass-roots fundraising campaigns.
This experience and highly specialised management systems have ensured that Compton Fundraising Consultants was well placed to meet the needs of clients in the Healthcare, Higher Education and Arts communities where it is often difficult to define a 'constituency of support'.
Success has followed with major capital campaigns being conducted for Universities, Hospitals, Museums and Theatres. Consulting assignments have also been undertaken to help build-out the fundraising capacity of clients such as Amnesty International or Barnardos, for example.
Compton Fundraising Consultants continues to invest in its people and systems to ensure it remains the consultancy of choice for our many repeat clients and those just beginning to explore the sources of philanthropic funding.
