Cathedrals & Churches

Compton — Cathedrals & Churches

We have planned and managed fundraising campaigns for over 30 cathedrals over the last seven decades and worked on hundreds of church and diocesan projects.

Our work for some of the most historic and iconic buildings in the UK has involved designing and delivering annual funds, endowment and capital funding campaigns for the maintenance of fabric, music programmes, visitor and education centres.

In addition, church buildings house an increasing number of community support and outreach services, including food banks, drug and alcohol support, after school care and mental health counselling.

The National Churches Trust has estimated that the economic and social value of church buildings is worth over £12 billion each year.

St Anne's Limehouse, London

St Anne’s is an outstanding masterpiece of English Baroque architecture, listed as Grade 1, the highest level of heritage importance.  It was one of 12 churches built in the reign of Queen Anne to serve new parishes in the fast-growing suburbs of London. The architect, Nicholas Hawksmoor (1661-1736) worked as Sir Christopher Wren’s assistant on the rebuilding of St Paul’s Cathedral and more than fifty parish churches destroyed in London’s Great Fire of 1666, as well as at Chelsea and Greenwich’s Royal Naval College.

We worked with the project group at St Anne’s to develop a fundraising plan for a range of restoration and repurposing projects leading up to the church’s tercentenary in 2030.

Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust: 50th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign

The Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust, part of the National Churches Trust network, makes grants to preserve and develop churches of all denominations in Oxfordshire.

To celebrate the Trust’s 50th Anniversary the charity set a goal of £3 million in cash gifts, pledges and legacies to enhance its endowment fund and enable the Trust to increase its grants as demand increases in the years ahead.

The fundraising plan, based on a Compton resources study, was geared to enlisting influential local leaders and seeking commitments from those nearest to the charity before widening participation to include County-based philanthropists and grant-makers.

The successful Jubilee Campaign – led in exemplary fashion by OHCT Trustees and a network of fundraising volunteers – was able to call upon the generosity of Trust members and the wider population of those who value the spiritual, heritage, architectural and community benefits of Oxfordshire’s churches.

St Mildred’s, Croydon

We have been working with St Mildred’s to test and develop a fundraising plan to fund the restoration of the church’s West organ. As well as enhancing St Mildred’s rich musical tradition, the new organ will become a significant new facility for the community offering educational opportunities for teaching and performance, and ensuring its wonderful sounds will be enjoyed for many decades to come.
