Compton Fundraising Our Clients Hospitals and Healthcare

Hospitals & Healthcare

Compton — Hospitals & Healthcare

The Pandemic transformed public awareness of the work of NHS charities. Hospital charities across the UK were able to connect with their grassroots communities and raise millions locally for emergency appeals and special projects and programmes.

The ongoing challenge for NHS charities is how they sustain levels of grassroots ownership and support when pressures upon the NHS remain so acute.

We look forward to working with more NHS charities and allied healthcare charities over the coming months to test, implement and deliver sustainable funding plans for our hospitals, healthcare institutions and allied medical research charities.

Funding Groundbreaking Focused Ultrasound equipment and prostate cancer treatment at Northampton General Hospital

The Most Important Sound You Will Never Hear

Congratulations to the Trustees, volunteer leaders and fundraising team at Northamptonshire Health Charity for raising over £450,000 in 4 months (and still counting) for groundbreaking prostate cancer equipment, treatment and care at Northampton General Hospital and the wider East Midlands region.

Focused Ultrasound (FUS) approved by NICE for use in the treatment of Prostate Cancer can be used in around 20% of cases, is delivered as a day procedure and avoids what can be life-changing side effects of other prostate cancer treatments such as surgery and radiotherapy.

Before this campaign, tested in a Compton Resources Study in late 2024 and driven by the ongoing consulting work from our Managing Consultant, Chris Butterwick, there were no centres in the East Midlands offering FUS for prostate cancer patients. Any patients suitable for FUS treatment for prostate cancer were referred to other hospitals (often in London) with prolonged wait times and long distances to travel.

Our work has changed that by opening the first NHS FUS site in the Region available to patients suffering from prostate cancer being treated at NGH (now combined with Kettering General Hospital as ‘University Hospitals of Northamptonshire’ and linked with Leicester Hospital).

Congratulations to all of the major donors, fundraising volunteers and NHS leaders and team members involved in this highly focused and successful campaign.

Capital funding for Air Ambulance (Pre Hospital Emergency Services) in Devon, Dorset and Somerset

Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) has been transformed over the last decade and is saving dozens more lives across the UK every year.

Air ambulances and emergency response cars do not simply transport patients to hospitals, but bring life-saving interventions in the form of specialist consultants doctors and latest trauma technology to road traffic collisions and other potentially life-threatening accidents within minutes.

Air Ambulance charities have always been able to call upon the generosity of the grassroots public in their Counties, but we are privileged to be working in the South West with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and separately with the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance on capital fundraising campaigns for new, world-leading airbases.

Other assignments

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation: Newcastle Hospitals Charity

The Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Unit at Newcastle Hospital is a world-leading cancer trials centre. Since the Centre opened in 2009, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has gone on to raise over £13 million, largely from the generosity of the grassroots communities of Newcastle and the wider North East Region. In partnership with the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Newcastle Hospitals Charity we conducted the capital fundraising feasibility study to test the potential for the development of further cancer trials and treatment services and facilities in Newcastle.

Somerset NHS Charities

Over a 5-year period, an embedded Compton team based at the Musgrove Hospital in Taunton helped to deliver a charity merger and rebrand and successfully relaunch a County-wide fundraising plan for the Somerset NHS Charities. Our work included the development of annual, regular giving fundraising, a successful £1 million MRI Scanner capital campaign, a range of smaller ward and unit projects and the development of a legacy promotion programme.

Oracle Head and Neck Cancer UK

Head and Neck cancers have become a top 5 cancer in men and a top 10 cancer overall and can result in devastating quality of life issues affecting everyday functions of the mouth, throat, nose and face. Tragically, only 13% of cases are diagnosed at an early stage. We worked alongside the Oracle team to develop a fundraising and awareness-building plan to prevent needless deaths and poor outcomes from these cancers.
