Compton — Arts & Culture

We have planned and managed major gift and capital campaigns for many cultural and arts organisations; from dozens of local theatres and arts centres to some of the world’s most famous stages – including the Royal Albert Hall, the Young Vic and Shakespeare’s Globe.

Shakespeare's Globe: the international centre for Shakespeare in performance

We have had a longstanding working relationship with the Globe across different phases of fundraising.

In 2008 Compton advised the Globe’s Trustees to plan and manage a £20 million campaign to fund three new building projects and establish an endowment fund – including £8 million to develop an Education and Rehearsal Centre.

The team we helped to build at the Globe went on to raise a further £7.5 million for the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse – the atmospheric, candle-lit indoor Jacobean theatre that has become a major London attraction.

More recently Compton worked with the Globe’s trustees, Development Team and fundraising networkers on a project to complete the world-class facilities on Bankside and confirm the Globe as the international centre for the study and understanding of Shakespeare in performance.

Other assignments

Southwark Playhouse

From January 2017 to June 2018 a Compton team provided consultancy support to the Playhouse in the form of business planning advice, development of its fundraising case for support and the preparation of a series of major bids for public funding and philanthropic funding.

British Library

The British Library engaged Compton to develop a fundraising strategy that would enable philanthropic support to be secured for a variety of projects and programmes. Developing a wider mix of possible funding sources was identified as a pragmatic way of providing the financial ‘headroom’ to enable innovative projects to progress in an otherwise reducing budget environment.
