Social Welfare

Compton — Social Welfare

Many charities working in the social welfare sector have found their services in great demand over the last decade. They need to find additional sources of funding or gear themselves to bid for contract-based funding from commissioners.

Over the last few years Compton has worked with a wide range of major charities in this space to conduct fundraising strategy reviews, plan major gift campaigns and reorganise income generation operations to the realities of the “new normal.”

St George's Crypt, Leeds

St George’s Crypt has been at the forefront of the provision of wide-ranging support for homeless and disadvantaged people since it was established as a charity in 1930.

We have been working alongside the Trustees and Development Company to fund the development of move on housing for those ready to make the move to independent living with access to opportunities toward employability.

The ‘From A Bench to Independence’ campaign continues to gather momentum with over £5 million now raised from Leeds City Council, the Lockwood Family Foundation, Liz & Terry Bramall Charitable Foundation, Evans Property Group, Garfield Weston Foundation, the Nisa Foundation and many others.

Congratulations to the whole team at St George’s Crypt on this tremendous success.

Veterans Aid

Veterans Aid is the UK’s one-stop shop for veterans in crisis: the A&E of the veterans sector. There are around 4.5 million veterans in the UK and over 20,000 men and women leave the Armed Forces every year. A small number of veterans experience problems in civilian life. VA offers a “hand up” not a “hand out” and has an unparalleled track record in breaking the cycle of crisis. Last year VA provided over 22,000 nights of accommodation, handled over 4,000 calls for help and advice and welcomed 600 visitors into its main office in Victoria.

We began work with VA in October 2014 to help raise funds to upgrade and expand the charity’s New Belvedere House hostel in East London. Over £8.2 million has been raised and the flagship facility for veterans in crisis was unveiled last autumn when Mayor of London Sadiq Khan formally opened the new hostel.

It has been a privilege to work with this pioneering and innovative charity.

Other assignments

Embrace - Child Victims of Crime

Embrace CVoC is the only national charity that is solely focused on supporting children who have been the victims of serious crime. It supports thousands of young people (and their families) each year including those harmed by serious violence, including terrorism offences, sexual abuse, and cyber crime. We are helping Embrace to plan a £2.5 million campaign in order to embed Embrace Young Victim Support Officers (YVSOs) within Victims Hubs attached to each of the County police forces.

Buttle UK - Chances for Children Campaign

It was our privilege to work with Buttle UK on its Chances for Children Campaign. We helped to raise £1.5 million in the first year of the Campaign which has gone on to raise over £4 million over the last 3 years and support 12,000 children and young people with a range of small but highly targeted and transformational grants

Diverse Abilities, Poole

Diverse Abilities supports people with physical and learning disabilities, aged from 18 years upwards. It’s taken two years of fundraising over £730,000 and months of building work – but we can congratulate the team on the opening of the Beehive Centre.
