Are you Code confident?
Preparing for the new Code
The Code of Fundraising Practice is changing. From 1 November 2025, charities across the UK will be expected to align their fundraising activities with a revised, principles-based framework introduced by the Fundraising Regulator.
In response, we have developed a Compliance Checklist, a practical resource designed to help fundraising teams and trustees assess their current practices, identify gaps, and take action.
What is changing?
The new Code is 45% shorter, clearer, and easier to apply. However, it introduces important responsibilities, including:
- Risk assessments for all events and cashless donation methods
- Monitoring procedures for third-party fundraisers and subcontractors
- Stronger protections for fundraisers, including lone worker policies
- Clearer expectations around donor communications, safeguarding, and due diligence
The Code is now a framework for ethical decision-making. Charities must justify their actions and demonstrate compliance through documentation and governance.
We can help you
Our checklist is designed for collaborative use by fundraising leaders and trustees. It supports the development of decision logs, risk registers, and policy reviews, all of which are now central to demonstrating compliance.
This tool can equip your organisation to respond confidently to complaints, risks, and regulatory scrutiny.

What the Checklist Covers
Compton’s checklist is structured around the Code’s three core sections:
Part 1: Standards for All Fundraising
- Behaviour, transparency, and fair treatment of donors
- Evidence for claims and procedures for correcting errors
- Accessibility and inclusion in fundraising communications
Part 2: Working with Others
- Volunteer training and safeguarding
- Due diligence and contracts for fundraising partnerships
- Monitoring and oversight of third-party fundraisers
Part 3: Specific Fundraising Methods
- Event planning, risk management, and participant communications
- Cash handling, online giving, and QR code security
- Legacy fundraising, grant applications, and payroll giving
Each section includes suggested actions and a traffic-light system to track progress.
